SEO Approach

Research

Keyword research, technical audit and canonical diagnosis

Optimization

Category metadata and crawlable product links

Visibility

Sitemap and live indexability verification

The objective was to improve category-page relevance and technical SEO signals: category-specific metadata, canonical URLs, crawlability and internal product links. The scope covered five category URLs, keyword-to-page mapping, metadata and sitemap inclusion—not a demonstrated increase in search performance.

Keyword Research

Keywords were grouped by category, mapped to search intent and a target page, and checked in Google Ads Keyword Planner (Sri Lanka). Volumes and bid ranges below are recorded in the research sheet; Keyword Planner reports volume as ranges, so figures are estimates. Rows marked “Proxy” use a related query, and “Not verified” rows still need research.

Initial SEO Audit Findings

AreaInitial findingImplementation priorityScope
Canonical consistencyA previous URL inspection showed the user-declared canonical as https://nimcostore.com/shop while Google selected https://nimcostore.com/shop?category=wall-arts.Declare each category’s own canonical URL.Previously observed canonical-selection issue
Initial HTML outputCategory-page product links needed to be included in the initial HTML output.Publish product links in initial category HTML.Category-page crawlability
Category signalsCategory pages required distinct titles, descriptions and sitemap entries.Publish category-specific metadata and include five category URLs in the sitemap.Five category URLs
Search Console URL inspection showing the Kitchen and Dining canonical mismatch
Evidence 1C — Canonical mismatch found in Search Console. For /shop?category=kitchen-dining, the user-declared canonical was https://nimcostore.com/shop while Google selected https://nimcostore.com/shop?category=wall-arts (crawled 22 Oct 2026).

The canonical mismatch was a previously observed issue. It is not shown as resolved here: Google’s selection of the intended canonical has not yet been confirmed by a new inspection.

On-page SEO

Published SEO Elements

  • Category-specific page titles
  • Category-specific meta descriptions
  • Self-referencing category canonical URLs
  • Product links in initial category HTML (additional evidence required)
  • Five category URLs included in the sitemap

These are implementation changes. They do not establish Google’s final canonical selection or indexing.

Published Kitchen and Dining page source with a self-referencing canonical URL
Evidence 2 — Category-specific canonical. The declared canonical points to https://nimcostore.com/shop?category=kitchen-dining. This is the published declaration, not Google’s final selection.
04

Technical SEO Decisions

Decision 01

Observation

The Kitchen & Dining canonical signals were inconsistent.

Decision

Publish a self-referencing category canonical.

Reason

Align the declared preferred URL with the intended category page.

Decision 02

Observation

Product discovery needed support in the initial category HTML.

Decision

Include product links in the initial output.

Reason

Make product destinations available without relying only on later rendering.

Decision 03

Observation

Each category needed distinct page-level signals and sitemap inclusion.

Decision

Publish category metadata and add five category URLs to the sitemap.

Reason

Support category relevance and URL discovery without assuming indexing.

SEO Implementation

Evidence 3 — Category-specific page title
Evidence 3 — Category-specific page titleThe published source shows Kitchen & Dining – Shop NIMCO Homeware as the HTML title. This confirms implementation, not rankings.
Evidence 4 — Category-specific meta description
Evidence 4 — Category-specific meta descriptionThe supplied source screenshot shows the category-specific description. The screenshot is preserved unchanged; it does not establish search-result display or traffic.
Evidence 5 — Product-page canonical in the source
Evidence 5 — Product-page canonical in the sourceThe published source of /product/velvet-cushion-cover-45x45 declares its own canonical URL, showing product pages carry self-referencing canonicals. It does not confirm Google’s selection or indexing.

Technical SEO implementation — Kitchen & Dining: The published page source shows a category-specific HTML title, meta description and canonical URL. These demonstrate the implemented page-level signals; Google’s final canonical selection and indexing status require separate Search Console verification.

Additional evidence required: product links in initial HTML source. The supplied shop-page source shows category navigation and product-related text, but does not clearly show product cards linking to individual product pages, so this point is not yet evidenced here.

Website & Digital Visibility

Evidence 6 — Sitemap verification
Evidence 6 — Sitemap verificationSupports the sitemap claim: Search Console reports “Sitemap processed successfully”, last read 23 Oct 2026, with 36 discovered URLs and 0 videos. The sitemap includes all five category URLs; successful processing does not prove they are indexed.
Evidence 6B — Five category URLs in the sitemap
Evidence 6B — Five category URLs in the sitemapThe live sitemap.xml lists Kitchen & Dining, Bedding & Soft Furnishing, Home Organizing, Wall Arts and Health & Fitness as separate HTTPS category URLs. Inclusion supports discovery; it does not confirm indexing.
Evidence 7 — Kitchen & Dining live URL test
Evidence 7 — Kitchen & Dining live URL testSupports the indexability claim: the live test reports the URL is available to Google, page fetch successful, crawling allowed and indexing allowed. Eligibility is not confirmation that it is indexed or selected as canonical.
Evidence 8 — Category page in the browser
Evidence 8 — Category page in the browserThe genuine Kitchen & Dining screenshot shows the category heading and visible product grid. It demonstrates the page experience, not Google indexing or commercial results.

Search & Business Growth

Not established by supplied evidence

Google Search Console successfully processed the sitemap and reported 36 discovered URLs. The sitemap includes all five category URLs. Published category-specific metadata is evidenced in the live page source; product links in the initial HTML still require additional evidence. A live test found the Kitchen & Dining URL available to Google and eligible for indexing. Google’s selection of the intended canonical URLs and indexing of every category page remain unconfirmed. Organic traffic, rankings, conversions and revenue improvements have not been established.

Completed Technical Checks

  • Live page source reviewed for the Kitchen & Dining title, description and canonical (Evidence 2–4).
  • Sitemap status reviewed in Search Console — processed, last read 23 Oct 2026 (Evidence 6).
  • Kitchen & Dining live URL test — fetch successful, crawling and indexing allowed (Evidence 7).

Planned Monitoring

  • Review each category URL’s index status and Google-selected canonical.
  • Monitor sitemap processing and discovered-page counts.
  • Review Search Console impressions and clicks over time before making outcome claims.

Practical Learning

This work demonstrates technical SEO auditing, canonical-tag implementation, metadata optimization, sitemap management, and crawlability and indexability checks. It also shows the importance of separating published implementation, live-test eligibility and Google’s final indexing decisions.
